UNHCR: Flash Floods Impact over 700,000 Citizens in South Sudan

The UNHCR said the recent flash floods that hit afflicted South Sudan have impacted nearly 700,000 citizens and thousands of casualties across several cities nationwide, noting that it is alarmed at the crucial needs facing the 

Also in this regard, it cited it as the worst flooding in decades, which had cost the lives of over 20 people.

In response to this disaster, UNHCR called on the international community to urgently assist South Sudanese impacted by floods that have caused havoc in the country.

In a statement, UNHCR said it has teamed up with the humanitarian country team and South Sudan's government to deliver urgently needed support to the most affected, including hygiene items, food, emergency shelter, and solar lanterns to provide light.

In the same context, it revealed that autumn rains are expected to continue for the remainder of the year, with an anticipated increase in the number of people needing humanitarian assistance.

It's worth mentioning that these flash floods from weeks of heavy rains have swept away homes and inundated farmlands, forcing families and livestock to seek safety on higher ground and in neighbouring towns.
