The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed that there were 47,489 new arrivals seeking registration and protection services in Egypt as of July 30.
Out of the registered Sudanese refugees in Egypt, 57 percent are females and 43 percent are males, with a total count of 47,489. The majority of them (94 percent) used to reside in Khartoum, according to a statement recently issued by UNHCR.
Regarding their preferred destination, 44 percent of the refugees wish to remain in Egypt, while only six percent aim to relocate abroad. Merely two percent are willing to return to Sudan, and 48 percent remain undecided about their future plans.
The commission said earlier that Egypt hosts 299,167 registered refugees and asylum-seekers. Most live in urban areas of Greater Cairo and the North Coast. UNHCR registers, documents, and conducts RSD on behalf of the Egyptian Government and facilitates access to protection and essential services, such as health and education.
