The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Wednesday that around 17,000 displaced people have so far arrived in Sudan’s White Nile State after fleeing violence in the regions of Kordofan and Darfur.

According to a statement by UNHCR, the influx reflects the continued deterioration of security conditions in several parts of the country, forcing thousands of civilians to seek safer areas.

UNHCR said the displaced families are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food, clean water, and medical care, as local communities and relief organizations face growing pressure to meet rising needs.

The agency noted that it is working with national authorities and humanitarian partners to assess the situation on the ground and scale up emergency response efforts, amid concerns over further displacement if the violence continues.
