UNESCO has launched a global initiative to address the growing education financing crisis, bringing together education leaders four years after the U.N. Transforming Education Summit to seek solutions for sustainable investment in learning.

The organization warned that international aid for education could decline by as much as 30% between 2023 and 2027, while 113 countries now spend more on servicing public debt than on education, threatening progress toward global education goals.

UNESCO has issued a set of recommendations aimed at helping governments reduce debt pressures and increase investment in education, calling for stronger international cooperation to ensure quality learning opportunities for all.

The initiative underscores UNESCO's appeal for education to remain a global priority despite mounting economic challenges and fiscal constraints.
