A new report by UNESCO warns that gender inequality is worsening the global water crisis, disproportionately affecting women and girls.

Published on behalf of UN-Water, the report finds that despite progress, inequalities continue to undermine water security worldwide.

It reveals that women are responsible for collecting water in more than 70% of rural households without basic services, yet they remain largely excluded from water management and leadership roles.

UNESCO stressed that this imbalance hampers effective and sustainable solutions, calling for greater inclusion of women in decision-making processes.

The report concludes that addressing gender disparities is essential to achieving long-term water security and sustainable development.
