The United Nations on Monday opened its first Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, bringing together governments, technology companies, academics, civil society and technical experts to develop shared approaches for managing AI's rapid growth. Discussions focus on AI safety, accountability, transparency and meaningful human oversight, while promoting international cooperation and narrowing the global AI divide.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said every country now has "a seat at the table" to help shape AI governance, stressing that innovation must be guided by ethical safeguards and human rights. The two-day meeting also builds on the first independent global scientific assessment of AI, with participants seeking policies that ensure artificial intelligence supports sustainable development while protecting human dignity and security.
