UNESCO Audio Week Kicks off in Egypt under Rubric ‘Acoustic Legacy of Cities’

The activities of the UNESCO Audio Week in Egypt were launched during the period between 14-17 May under the rubric of ‘Acoustic Legacy of Cities’.

The event was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Mr. Marc Baretti, French Ambassador in Cairo, Prof. Dr. Hesham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Mustafa Refaat, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Tamer Al-Nadi, Professor of Design and Production Engineering at the Faculty, and others.

The Audio Week was organized in cooperation with the French Embassy under the supervision of Dr. Reem Abdel-Rahmani, the university scientific cooperation advisor at the Embassy.

On his part, Mr. Marc Baretti, the French Ambassador in Cairo, hailed the ongoing cooperation between the French Embassy in Cairo and Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, saying that this important event highlights the cooperation and partnership between Egypt and France through UNESCO. He noted that audio is a great heritage that helps in shaping relations between inpiduals.

Dr. Paul Hector, UNESCO Communications and Information Consultant, stressed that audio has a very important role in the economy, quality of social life, and in various areas of life, adding that UNESCO gives priority to supporting audio learning in the educational fields, in support of peace, non-violence, and marginalization.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening the role of music to acquire all educational skills.

The event witnessed a group of artistic performances by the choir of Ain Shams University led by Maestro Mahmoud Waheed for Umm Kulthum's songs, some folkloric and Nubian shows, in addition to pieces from Beethoven's ninth symphony and a piece of music by Mozart.
