United Nations (UN)  Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that Russia's invasion of Ukraine will exacerbate a "triple crisis" of food, energy, and financial conditions across Africa.

He warned that this conflict could push 250 million people into "poverty" this year.

The  UN chief visited Senegal at the beginning of a tour that included a number of African countries, restoring a tradition he had adopted since he was the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees by going to Muslim-majority countries in the month of Ramadan to fast with their children.

Guterres added that Russia's invasion of Ukraine had driven up global food and fuel prices.
