In a briefing to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Denmark’s Deputy Permanent Representative Sandra Jensen Landi warned that Tehreek‑i‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP), with an estimated 6,000 fighters, constitutes a “serious threat” to peace and stability in South and Central Asia. She stated that the group has been carrying out high-profile attacks in Pakistan from Afghan territory and is reportedly receiving logistical and operational support from Afghanistan’s de facto authorities.

Landi highlighted that TTP attacks have resulted in mass casualties and continue to destabilize the region, emphasizing that cross-border terrorism remains a critical concern for Pakistan. Pakistan’s Deputy UN envoy, Usman Jadoon, echoed these concerns, noting the growing threat from militant groups such as TTP, ISIL-Khorasan, and the Baloch Liberation Army. He called for a more realistic and inclusive approach to the UN’s 1267 sanctions regime, stressing that effective measures are needed to curb the support networks enabling these groups to operate across borders.

The briefing underscores Islamabad’s long-standing position that militant groups are being sheltered in Afghanistan, exacerbating security challenges in Pakistan and the broader region. The UNSC was urged to take decisive action to prevent further escalation and ensure regional stability.
