The number of displaced Sudanese due to the ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has exceeded three million people, according to estimates by the International Organization for Migration.

More than 2.4 million people have been internally displaced, while more than 730,000 have fled to neighboring countries, according to the organization's data.

Most fled the war, which broke out three months ago, either from the capital, Khartoum, the focus of the conflict between the army and the paramilitary RSF, or from Darfur, where ethnically directed violence has escalated.

UN officials warn that Sudan could slip into civil war as regional and international mediation efforts to reach a permanent truce have failed.

The UN Special Envoy to Sudan, Volker Berthes, said the ceasefire agreements had been violated several times.
