The United Nations (UN) has warned of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, expressed his alarm at an escalation in violence and hostile rhetoric across the region in recent weeks, against the background of reports of the bombing of the airport in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
According to Stephane Dujarric, a UN spokesman, the Secretary-General warned of the dangers of miscalculation that could lead to a broader conflict in an already volatile region.
Guterres added, according to a statement by United Nations spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, that directing attacks against civilians and civilian facilities is strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law.
He called on all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.
