UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. He warned that the ongoing conflict is having devastating consequences for civilians and could lead to a further deterioration of the humanitarian situation. Guterres called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for all parties to the conflict to prioritize the protection of civilians.

The international community has expressed alarm at the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Aid agencies are struggling to reach those in need due to insecurity and access restrictions. The UN has appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance to prevent a wider catastrophe.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions of people displaced and facing dire conditions.

The fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has disrupted essential services, displaced countless civilians, and created a dire humanitarian situation.

According to the Norwegian Refugee Council, the city of Nyala, Sudan's second-largest city, has been severely affected by the conflict. The intense fighting in residential areas has resulted in widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and homes, leading to the cessation of most essential services and a significant decrease in the presence of humanitarian organizations.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sudan, particularly those in camps around Nyala, are facing a dire humanitarian crisis. The camps, which are already overcrowded, have seen a surge in new arrivals, straining limited resources. The Norwegian Refugee Council warns that the humanitarian situation in these camps is on the brink of a famine, with the risk of widespread food shortages by September 2024.

The conflict has also had a devastating impact on the health and education sectors. Many health facilities have been damaged or looted, leading to a shortage of medical supplies and a resurgence of diseases. Similarly, schools have been closed, depriving thousands of children of their education.
