The United Nations will send a humanitarian mission to Nagorno-Karabakh for the first time in about 30 years, UN Spokesman  Stephane Dujarric announced on Friday.

The mission will examine the situation in the region after the military disputes that took place between separatists and Azerbaijan a few weeks ago, and the exodus of the Armenian-ethnic residents from the region to Armenia.

Dujarric said: “The government of Azerbaijan and the UN have agreed on a mission to the region. The mission will take place over the weekend."

Last week Azerbaijan took control of Nagorno-Karabakh which led the Armenian ethnic people to flee the region over fears of ethnic cleanzing.

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia collided together twice over the region.

Dujarric added: “We haven’t had access to there about 30 years,” due to the “very complicated and delicate geopolitical situation.”

“So it’s very important that we will be able to get in."

Dujarric highlighted that the UN is working with the Armenian side to deal with refugees from Nagorno-Karbakh.
