Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), said that the situation in Ethiopia is getting out of control.
In a statement, Guterres expressed his deep concern about the escalation of fighting in the Ethiopian region of Tigray, which greatly affects civilians in light of an already dire humanitarian situation.
Moreover, the Secretary-General called for an "immediate cessation of hostilities", reiterating his "full support for the African Union-led mediation process" and "the readiness of the United Nations to support the urgent resumption of talks towards a lasting political settlement of this disastrous conflict."
