The United Nations (UN) said that 12.5 million people in Sudan are among the poorest groups in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

The UN expected that the numbers will increase, with 1.5 million entering the circle of emergency and most urgent needs during the next year, which is the highest rate in a decade.

The international organization is seeking financial support from donors of about $1.7 billion to meet these needs in 2023.

The UN and its partners in humanitarian activities launched, in a workshop held in Khartoum, yesterday, the Humanitarian Response Plan for a year, which provides the necessary support to continue its humanitarian work in Sudan.

According to the estimates of the international organization, the number of people suffering from food insecurity in Sudan has increased to 15 million, or the equivalent of a third of the population, compared to last year.

The Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Khardiata Lundiaye, said at a press conference at the United Nations headquarters in Khartoum that the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan was the result of months-long consultations to find the best possible way to provide the necessary support for aid enforcement.
