The United Nations has warned that more than 120,000 people — including a large number of children — are currently trapped inside the city of Al-Fashir in Sudan’s Darfur region, as fighting intensifies between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Speaking to CNN, UN officials described the situation in Al-Fashir as “catastrophic”, highlighting severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. The ongoing clashes have effectively turned the city into a sealed-off humanitarian enclave, making it nearly impossible for aid agencies to deliver life-saving assistance.

According to the UN, civilians are enduring dire living conditions, with hospitals overwhelmed, supply routes cut off, and markets destroyed. Humanitarian workers warn that unless access is restored, thousands could face starvation or death from preventable diseases and injuries.

The United Nations sounded the alarm over the imminent risk of a major humanitarian disaster, urging the international community to take immediate action to establish safe humanitarian corridors and ensure the delivery of aid to the besieged population.

UN officials also called on all parties to cease hostilities without delay and to respect international humanitarian law, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and allow unimpeded access for relief operations.
