A new United Nations (UN) food security report on the drought in the Horn of Africa says that although Somalia is not yet caught in famine, several regions of the country are at risk in the coming months.

The UN report added, according to the American news network "ABC News", that more than 8 million people suffer from severe food insecurity at a time when Somalia is facing an "unprecedented level of needs" after five consecutive "failed" rainy seasons and high food prices. "Exceptionally high."

The report added that the "most likely scenario" is that famine will affect more than 700,000 people between April and June of next year in two parts of the Gulf region of southwestern Somalia and among the displaced in the town of Baidoa and the capital, Mogadishu.

The report warned that several other parts of central and southern Somalia would also see an increased risk of famine if the sixth consecutive rainy season fails early next year.
