United Nations Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov has shortly arrived in Cairo in a two-day visit to Egypt to discuss the current situation in the Gaza Strip and the recent wave of violence and Israeli air strikes against the Palestinians.

Many foreign newspapers described the UN official’s visit to Cairo as an ‘urgent’ to stop the danger of escalation in the Gaza Strip.

It is worth mentioning that Israel launched 30 air strikes since early Tuesday, leaving at least 24 people killed, including an Islamic Jihad commander, alongside his wife.

The international organizations condemned the escalating Israeli aggression against the unarmed Palestinian people, decrying public executions, which claimed the lives of many victims.

On his part, Israel's newly-appointed Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said that his country will not hesitate to target more Gaza militants.

He added that Israel is sending a clear message to its enemies: "Whoever plans to attack us during the day, will never be safe through the night."

The message comes a day after the recent airstrike that resulted in the killing of a senior jihadist commander.

Bennett took office on Tuesday to fortify Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's political base. Bennett has long advocated tougher action against Palestinian militants.

It is worth mentioning that Israel launched deadly airstrikes against commanders of Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad early Tuesday.

The Israeli military said that more than 250 rockets have been fired from Gaza against Israeli communities since the latest violence erupted.

Schools remained closed in Israeli communities near the Gaza border and restrictions on public gatherings continued as rockets rained down in lesser ferocity than during the relentless barrage the previous day.
