The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency session on Thursday to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where aid deliveries remain severely restricted amid ongoing conflict.

UN officials and humanitarian agencies have warned that the situation in Gaza is reaching catastrophic levels, with food, water, and medical supplies running dangerously low. Thousands of civilians are at risk, prompting urgent calls for increased aid access.

During the meeting, UN Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated the need for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian assistance. "We must act now to prevent further suffering," he urged, emphasizing that civilians should not be made to bear the brunt of war.

The session saw sharp exchanges between key members of the Security Council. The United States and several European nations pressed for more humanitarian corridors, while other members, including Russia and China, called for a broader diplomatic solution to end hostilities.

Efforts to pass a new resolution demanding unrestricted aid access have faced obstacles, with some countries concerned about political implications. However, humanitarian groups insist that immediate action is necessary to prevent further loss of life.

Meanwhile, on the ground in Gaza, aid agencies report that deliveries remain sporadic due to security concerns and logistical challenges. The UN has repeatedly urged all parties to comply with international humanitarian law and allow aid to reach those in need.

The Security Council is expected to continue discussions in the coming days, with diplomats working to reach a consensus on a path forward.
