UN Secretary General Visits Iraq

Today, Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, is paying a visit to Iraq, during which he will affirm solidarity with the Iraqis and support for solid democratic institutions.

Guterres announced during a press conference from Baghdad airport on Tuesday night that "this is a visit of solidarity with the people and democratic institutions in Iraq, and solidarity means that the United Nations is fully committed to supporting the consolidation of the country's institutions."

Today, Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the United Nations is scheduled to meet with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein, and prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, President Abdul Latif Rashid, and Speaker of Parliament Muhammad al-Halbousi.

In his statements, the Secretary-General also expressed his confidence that the Iraqis will be able to overcome the difficulties and challenges they face thanks to an open and inclusive dialogue. 

The Secretary-General affirmed his support for the efforts made by the Iraqi government to restore its citizens who left the country, expressing his hope that Iraq would have a future of peace and prosperity with solid democratic institutions.
