United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for all parties involved in the Gaza conflict to prevent a resumption of hostilities, warning of the devastating consequences such an escalation could bring.

“We must avoid at all costs the resumption of hostilities in Gaza that would lead to an immense tragedy,” Guterres said, emphasizing the urgency of maintaining the fragile cease-fire.

The Secretary-General specifically urged Hamas to proceed with the planned release of hostages on Saturday, a key component of ongoing peace efforts.

He also stressed that both sides must fully adhere to their commitments under the cease-fire agreement and return to negotiations in Doha to advance the second phase of the agreement.

Guterres’ statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, as international mediators continue to push for a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

The UN remains engaged in diplomatic efforts to prevent further violence and secure lasting peace in Gaza.
