UN Secretary-General to Visit Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan

CAIRO, March 30 (SEE) - Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres will arrive Monday in Egypt where he is expected to hold talks with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the incumbent chairperson of the African Union.

The UN regional bureau located in Cairo said that Guterres will pay a visit to Al-Azhar Institution where he will meet with Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb and tackle ways needed to counter so-called Islamophobia, hatred and extremism.

Guterres left New York on Friday, heading to Tunisia to attend the 30th Summit of the Arab League of States and deliver a speech before the participants on Sunday.

The UN secretary-general will hold talks with Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi and other senior statesmen.

In addition, Guterres will meet with university students and a number of youth.

He will witness the official inauguration of so-called “Blue House” and hold talks with female activists and NGOs’ representatives.

On the sideline of the AL Summit, Guterres’ consultations will focus on the Libyan issue as he will attend a four-party meeting about Libya. The meeting will embrace representatives from the Arab League, The European Union, the African Union, the United Nations and UN Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama.

After concluding his visit to Tunisia, he will head to Egypt.

The last stop will be in Jordan where he will take part in the Global Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa.

Guterres will meet with King Abdullah II and high-profile statesmen.
