The United Nations warned that severe access constraints in the Sudanese city of El Fasher continue to obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance, despite limited progress in reaching parts of the country.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said that reaching El Fasher remains one of the organization’s biggest challenges. Speaking to the program “Up Close with Amal El-Hanawy” on Cairo News, he noted that although the UN has managed to enter Sudan through specific facilities, it is still “struggling to deliver aid safely and consistently.”
Haq added that several international agencies are working to sustain the flow of humanitarian support. The World Food Programme is currently sending around 400 tons of food supplies every week to affected populations, while the UN Refugee Agency is providing additional assistance.
He also highlighted the efforts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), led by its representative Valery Flesher, which is working to provide field support to help compensate for the severe shortage of essential services. Haq stressed that the humanitarian situation remains extremely difficult and requires continued international coordination to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
