Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding said that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners have provided assistance to nearly 11 million people, since the start of the war.

The UN official added that about 6 million Ukrainian refugees have found shelter across Europe, since the war began on February 24, adding that more than 9.5 million people have fled Ukraine.

Moroever, she also drew attention to the specific impact of the war on women and girls, especially in food security and health areas, which is rapidly deteriorating.

"In addition, Ukrainian women face significantly increased safety and protection risks," the Under Secretary-General said.

"Incidents of gender-based violence, including allegations of sexual violence in conflict, have increased, but survivors are not fully provided with services. It is also possible that many victims and survivors are currently unable to report their cases."

In this regard, DiCarlo stressed that women should be meaningful participants in discussions and initiatives to shape the country's future, including peace negotiations, recovery efforts, peacebuilding, and accountability efforts.
