The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations have revealed their ability to develop new climate-resilient seeds and crops from space.
These statements came as leaders gather at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh; to discuss pressing environmental challenges, including the significant impact of the climate crisis on the world's agro-food production systems.
"Nuclear science is once again showing us its exceptional ability to address climate change," said the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, according to the United Nations Information Center.
"Millions of smallholder farmers around the world urgently need resilient, high-quality seeds adapted to increasingly challenging farming conditions," said FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.
