The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, highlighted Egypt’s long-standing leadership in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development, in a message marking the UN’s 80th anniversary.
Panova said Egypt has been a “steadfast pillar of stability in an increasingly unstable neighborhood,” emphasizing the country’s consistent commitment to dialogue, humanitarian action, and collective progress.
She praised Egypt’s historical and ongoing contributions to the UN — from its status as a founding member and top peacekeeping contributor to its leadership in the Non-Aligned Movement and the G77, amplifying the voice of the Global South.
Panova also commended Egypt’s climate leadership, noting that hosting COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh helped advance global climate justice and establish the Loss and Damage Fund to support vulnerable nations.
“Egypt’s example of responsibility and cooperation offers a blueprint for the kind of multilateralism the world needs — principled yet pragmatic, national yet global,” Panova said.
She reaffirmed that as the UN moves toward its centenary, Egypt remains a vital partner in upholding the organization’s mission to serve people, reduce fear, and expand hope.
