The United Nations stressed the importance of collective action in facing global challenges, warning that no country can confront threats such as climate change or terrorism on its own.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said the organization continues to play a vital role in addressing international crises and conflicts.
In a telveised interview, Haq emphasized that since its founding nearly 80 years ago, the UN has remained the only platform that brings nations together to work collectively on common threats.
“The world today faces complex challenges such as cross-border terrorism and climate change. These are issues that no single country is capable of handling independently. They require coordination and joint efforts among all member states,” Haq noted.
He also highlighted that next week marks the opening of the UN General Assembly’s annual session in New York, one of the largest diplomatic gatherings in the world, bringing together the greatest concentration of global leaders every September to deliberate pressing international issues.
According to Haq, Secretary-General Guterres will deliver a keynote address urging heads of state and government to strengthen multilateral cooperation and seek joint solutions to escalating global challenges.
