In collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth (MoY), the United Nations family in Egypt launched the fifth edition of the 2023 Local Conference of Young Egypt (LCOY), an event that brings together young climate change activists.
The event, which took place on Sunday (Sep. 10) at the Al-Gezira Youth Center, Cairo, and organized by Act Sustainable, aims to empower youth and build their capacity for climate action.
According to the UN, this edition provides a recap of the highlights and achievements from the previous year's conference and sets the stage for the key messages and expectations for the year ahead. The session of LOCY 2023 aims to inform, inspire, and galvanize attendees to continue their efforts in tackling climate change.
In her remarks, the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt (UNRC) Elena Panova said that LOCY is a great opportunity for young people to address climate issues and come up with recommendations for Climate Action.
She noted that young people are often at the forefront of climate action and meet at LCOY to draft climate solutions for presentation at COP28.
LCOY is held in many countries across the Arab world under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
