The media spokeswoman for the World Food Program (WFP) in Egypt, Abeer Atifa, said that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has raised food prices to the highest level.

In statements to "Sputnik", a Russian news agency, she stressed that the Middle East and North Africa region is the most vulnerable to food crises, as it relies heavily on imports from abroad.

And she warned that “food prices rose to their highest level last February, according to the Food Price Index of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

She added that wheat prices rose by 21% from February 21 to March 15, and this is just the beginning.

Atifa explained that Lebanon imports 50% of its wheat from Ukraine, Yemen imports 22%, and Tunisia 42%, and therefore, we see that buyers in Asia and Africa will face an increase in the cost of bread and meat if supplies are disrupted.”
