Osama Abdel-Khalek, Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, affirmed his pride in the honoring of Egypt within the framework of the annual celebration organized by the United Nations to perpetuate the role of peacekeepers, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of UN peacekeeping operations.
In a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Friday on its official page, the permanent representative of Egypt referred to the appreciation of the United Nations Special Secretary-General to Egypt for its essential role and for its appreciated contribution to peacekeeping forces in major United Nations missions.
More than 30,000 Egyptians have participated over decades since the first participation in the peacekeeping operation in the Congo in 1960.
The celebration and the medal that Egypt received today provided an opportunity to renew Egypt's commitment to continue giving and contributing to the international peacekeeping system, as an extension of the noble sacrifices made by the military and police forces.
Egypt is one of the founders of the international peacekeeping system since the first United Nations peacekeeping mission, upholding peace under the banner of the United Nations.
