The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), along with Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud, celebrated four years of collaboration that resulted in further advancing the discussion on sustainable urbanization regionally and the successful resource mobilization and support to a number of projects.
The celebration was held during the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, where HRH participated in a Side Event tackling peace, development and humanitarian action in Yemen. The Saudi high-ranked figure also engaged in a number of bilateral meetings, discussing future areas of cooperation.
During one of these meetings, UN-Habitat and Princess Lamia renewed their commitment to building bridges for a more compassionate, tolerant, and accepting future.
“Being here today with our partner UN-Habitat will support our efforts to address issues around urbanization and its implications on societies, economies and environments,” said HRH Princess Lamia Al Saud.
“We promise to continue building bridges for a more compassionate, tolerant and accepting future along with our key partners.”
In turn, Rania Hedeya, UN-Habitat Regional Representative (a.i.) for the Arab Region said: “HRH has successfully contributed to the resource mobilization and support, through Al-Waleed Philanthropies, of crucial projects in the region, targeting COVID-19 response, housing for the most vulnerable groups and waste management.”
"HRH’s support enables UN-Habitat to reach various audiences and bring attention to urbanization topics in the regional and international agendas," she added.
Earlier this year, UN-Habitat celebrated the reappointment of HRH as the UN-Habitat Goodwill Ambassador for the Arab region for a second term, looking forward to more collaborations in areas including housing, climate action and urban crisis response.
It's worth mentioning that HRH took the helm as the first-ever UN-Habitat Goodwill Ambassador for the Arab region in 2020.
