Egyptian Minister of Housing Issam El-Gazar met with the Regional Director of the UN-Habitat Rania Hedeya to discuss Egypt’s preparations to host the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF) in November 2024.
El-Gazar expressed the state’s readiness to fully cooperate with the United Nations in organizing WUF.
In turn, Hedeya indicated that holding this forum in Egypt will be an opportunity to introduce the world to the urban achievements made by the Egyptian state.
She noted that the forum is one the most important global platform that deals with all aspects and sectors of sustainable urbanization and areas of sustainable urban development.
The WUF 12th is set to be hosted in Egypt with an emphasis on the sustainability of the urban development field. Egypt has been establishing an infrastructure through 7,000 kilometers of roads stretching across the country.
The official agreement to organize and host the forum was signed during the activities of the 11th session, which was held in June 2022 in Katowice, Poland.
The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policies.
Convened by UN-Habitat, the forum is a high-level, open, and inclusive platform for addressing the challenges of sustainable urbanization.
