UN Expresses Deep Concern Over Escalating US-Iran Tensions, Warns Against Regional Consequences

Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

In an exclusive statement to "Al-Qahira News," Dujarric emphasized the importance of altering the current situation, pointing to the grave consequences of this escalation.

He noted that both countries are conducting retaliatory strikes, which further heightens tensions, adding that such actions underscore the danger of the situation and call for urgent action.

Dujarric explained that the United Nations is closely monitoring Houthi threats to maritime navigation with concern, pointing out that disruptions to shipping in this region would have negative repercussions on the global economy.

He added that the UN is working with governments of developing nations to mitigate the fallout from the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran.

Furthermore, he stressed that mediators represent the international community in convincing Washington and Tehran of the futility of escalation, emphasizing the vital role they play in attempting to resume negotiations between the two sides.

The UN Spokesperson concluded by affirming that there is no military solution to the conflict in the Middle East.
