Abdullah Al-Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General of the Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States at the UN Development Programme (UNDP) revealed on Monday that the reconstruction plans for the Gaza Strip are expected to take about 5 years to implement at a cost of 3 billion dollars.
Speaking to Alqahera News, Al-Dardari emphasized the need to halt the fighting in the Gaza Strip to minimize the damage caused by the Israeli war. He noted that UN teams are actively working on the ground in the Strip to provide essential services to the Palestinians. "It's crucial to provide basic services in the fields of health, education, energy, and drinking water without waiting for the end of the war."
In the same context, Al-Dardari mentioned establishing joint centers and stations to support the local community in Palestine, civil society institutions, and small and medium-sized companies. Additionally, efforts are being made to create job opportunities for thousands of young people in the health and education sectors and to secure income for thousands of families to provide various services.
Al-Dardari stressed that UN relief teams have been working under Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program for a long time, adding that they aim to identify the size and type of rubble, the mechanism for recycling it, and the technologies needed to benefit from it, emphasizing that there is no safe place in the besieged Gaza Strip, which is exposed to destruction.
