The number of registered displaced people in Lebanon has risen to more than 800,000, the United Nations said on Wednesday, underscoring the growing humanitarian toll of the ongoing conflict.
UN noted that the updated figures reflect a sharp increase in civilians forced to flee their homes as hostilities intensify across parts of the country.
Earlier Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces issued urgent evacuation orders for residents in seven districts in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The warning targeted areas in Dahiyeh, a densely populated district that has frequently been the focus of Israeli airstrikes during the ongoing confrontation with armed groups in Lebanon.
The evacuation notices signal the possibility of further military operations in the area and raise concerns about an additional surge in civilian displacement in the coming days.
Humanitarian agencies have warned that the rapidly growing number of displaced people is placing severe strain on Lebanon’s already fragile infrastructure and social services, increasing the urgency of international humanitarian support as the conflict continues.
