A new study by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) shows that only a small percentage of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in developing countries, widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

According to the UN Programme, in September 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) set an ambitious global goal, which called for the UN health agency to vaccinate 70 percent of the world's population by mid-2022.

At that point, just over three percent of people in low-income countries had been vaccinated with at least one dose, compared to 60.18 percent in high-income countries, the UN program confirmed.

The total number of vaccines administered has risen dramatically, but so has inequality in distribution. Of the 10.7 billion doses distributed worldwide, only one percent were given in low-income countries, which means that 2.8 billion people around the world are still waiting to get the first dose.
