On Friday, the United Nations condemned the resumption of the aggression against Gaza, and described the hostilities there as a “catastrophic matter.”
The UN urged the parties to ensure adherence to the ceasefire, according to Reuters.
Israeli warplanes have resumed bombing Gaza, forcing civilians to flee in search of shelter after the week-long truce collapsed and expired without reaching an agreement to extend it.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said: “The resumption of hostilities in Gaza is disastrous.”
He urged "all parties and countries with influence to immediately redouble efforts to ensure a ceasefire for humanitarian and human rights reasons."
In a post on the “X” platform, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his regret at the resumption of fighting and his hope that a new truce would be reached.
In an appeal for a permanent ceasefire, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) described inaction in Gaza as "consent to the killing of children."
