United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over reports of escalating violence in the suburbs of Damascus and southern Syria, including civilian casualties and the assassination of local administrative figures.
He also strongly condemned Israel's violation of Syrian sovereignty, particularly the recent airstrike near the presidential palace in Damascus.
The Secretary-General emphasized that such attacks must cease and reiterated the need for Israel to respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence.
Guterres made a firm call for all concerned parties to immediately halt hostilities, exercise maximum restraint, and avoid further escalation.
He also stressed the importance of supporting a credible, orderly, and inclusive political transition in Syria, in line with the core principles of the UN Security Council resolution.
