The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the international community to support the two peoples of Turkey and Syria after the earthquake struck the two countries.
In a tweet, Guterres said: "I strongly appeal to the international community to support the people of Türkiye and Syria."
The first @UN convoy since the earthquakes hit has crossed into northern Syria with critical relief supplies.
More help is on the way, but much more is needed.

This came commenting on the arrival of the UN first aid convay to Syria. "The first UN convoy since the earthquakes hit has crossed into northern Syria with critical relief supplies. More help is on the way, but much more is needed."
On his part, UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen said: "The devastation from the earthquake is unimaginable. My appeal not to politicize emergency response. This about putting people first."
.@GeirOPedersen Emergency response must not be politicized. We must instead focus on what is needed urgently to help..those who we can still save, those whose lives are devastated by one of the most catastrophic earthquakes the region has seen... https://t.co/4qXfynzDw2 pic.twitter.com/QZnJXGDk5V
