UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday welcomed recent diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran as a constructive development, while cautioning that resolving deep-rooted differences will take time.
Describing the latest developments as “an important and positive step,” Guterres said they could provide a foundation for further dialogue between the two sides.
According to his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the UN chief acknowledged the scale of the disagreements between Washington and Tehran, affirming that “it is unreasonable to expect an agreement to be reached overnight.”
He further called on both parties to maintain constructive engagement and continue negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.
