Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, recently received a message from António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressing gratitude for his reception and honoring during a visit to Egypt on March 24th.
The Secretary-General thanked the Grand Imam for promoting peace, understanding, and interfaith dialogue during their meeting and for his tireless efforts towards promoting unity among different communities while calling for tolerance and empathy.
During the visit, the Grand Imam praised the Secretary-General for his courageous stance in supporting Palestinian rights, justice, and human rights in Gaza. The Grand Imam also acknowledged the Secretary-General's clear stances in warning the world of the dangers of aggression and the efforts of the United Nations agency UNRWA towards refugees and those fleeing the fire of aggression.
