United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres sounded the alarm over the deepening Israeli-Palestinian conflict, warning that the situation in Gaza has become "unbearable" and reiterating that Israel’s annexation of parts of the West Bank is illegal under international law.
Speaking during a high-level UN conference dedicated to advancing the two-state solution and resolving the Palestinian issue, Guterres emphasized the urgent need for international action, saying, “The Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to claim lives. The two-state solution is now more distant than ever, and the situation has reached a breaking point.”
He stressed that unilateral actions that undermine the viability of the two-state solution are "completely unacceptable" and called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. "This conference must serve as a decisive moment to end the occupation and revive hope," he stated.
Guterres reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to a negotiated peace based on international law, relevant UN resolutions, and the vision of two states — Israel and Palestine — living side by side in peace and security.
His remarks come amid ongoing violence in Gaza and the West Bank, and as humanitarian conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate, drawing growing international concern.
