United Nations UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has informed the five permanent members of the Security Council of his desire to remain in his post for a second term, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, according to two diplomats familiar with the matter.

The diplomats added that Guterres, 71, will likely inform the President UN of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, of this decision formally soon, according to the agency.

He was waiting for the result of the presidential elections in the United States before making his decision.

Guterres' office declined to comment on this news.
