UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday expressed his grave concern over the escalating conflict in Israel and Gaza.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, October 11, the UN chief affirmed the need to prevent the violence from spreading into the wider region, calling for the immediate release of all Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
"We must avoid spillover of the conflict. I am concerned about the recent exchange of fire along the Blue Line (between Israel and Lebanon) and recent reported attacks from southern Lebanon."
He also emphasized that UN premises, hospitals, schools, and clinics must never be targeted, and stressed the urgency of humanitarian access to the enclave.
“Crucial life-saving supplies – including fuel, food, and water – must be allowed into Gaza. We need rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access now,” he stressed.
