United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the escalating Israeli airstrikes targeting Sweida, Daraa, and central Damascus, as well as the redeployment of Israeli forces in the Golan Heights.

He called for an immediate halt to all violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and urged respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

According to the UN News Centre, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the need for a credible, orderly, and inclusive political transition in Syria, in line with the key principles of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015).

Guterres also reiterated his condemnation and expressed deep concern over the continued escalation of violence in Sweida, a predominantly Druze area, which has claimed the lives of hundreds, including civilians, and caused numerous injuries and mass displacement.

In a statement attributed to his spokesperson, the Secretary-General extended his heartfelt condolences to all Syrians and renewed his call for an immediate de-escalation of violence, urgent measures to restore calm, and the facilitation of humanitarian access.
