UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned Wednesday's attack on a memorial ceremony in the Islamic Republic of Iran that killed more than 100 people.

In a statement by the associate spokesperson for Guterres Florencia Soto Nino, it said: "The secretary-general expresses his deep condolences to the bereaved families and the people and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and he wishes the injured a speedy recovery."

Two blasts near the burial site of Iran's slain general Qassem Soleimani in Kerman province killed at least 103 people. They wounded more than 170 others, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The terrorist attack occurred near the Soleimani tomb, where people gathered at the cemetery in Kerman, in southeast Iran, to mark the fourth anniversary of Soleimani's death in a U.S. drone strike.
