On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the terrorist attack against peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Bali, Ituri province.
In a statement, the UN Secretary-General extended his deepest condolences to the family of the fallen peacekeeper, as well as to the Government and the people of Nepal.
In the same connection, Guterres considered attacks against United Nations peacekeepers as a war crime.
UN Chief also called on the Congolese authorities to investigate this incident and swiftly bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, the Security Council strongly condemned the attack which they considered a gross violation of the peace operation in Congo.
"The Secretary-General reaffirms that the United Nations, through his Special Representative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will continue to support the Congolese Government and people in their efforts to bring about peace and stability in the east of the country," the statement said.
It's worth mentioning that the members of the Coopérative pour le développement du Congo (CODECO) militia were accused of attacking and killing one peacekeeper from Nepal.
