The United Nations country team, led by UN Resident Coordinator Elena Panova, met with Ahmed Nehad Abdel Latif, Head of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in Africa (CCCPA), to discuss the preparation for the fourth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, to be held in 2024.

Abdel Latif noted that the Aswan Forum serves as a cooperation axis between Egypt and the United Nations, as outlined in their joint 2023-2027 cooperation document.

According to Abdel Latif, the upcoming 2024 edition of the forum holds special significance due to regional and global developments, the complexity of the political scene in Africa, and the increase in conflicts and their changing nature. This underlines the importance of African participation in international discussions on enhancing global cooperation, especially with the United Nations holding the Future Summit next year.

The Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development is a unique platform that addresses inseparable issues in Africa. It convenes in December each year, bringing together heads of state and government, leaders from national governments, regional and international organizations, financial institutions, the private sector, civil society, visionaries, scholars, and prominent experts.

The objective is to have context-specific, action-oriented, and forward-looking discussions on the threats and challenges, as well as opportunities, facing the region.
