UN: 830 Thousand People Affected by Sudan Floods

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Thursday, that "nearly 830 thousand people" were affected by the heavy rains and devastating floods that hit Sudan weeks ago, despite the low level of the Nile water for several days.

In addition, the United Nations said that the heavy rains sweeping the country since mid-July have caused total and partial destruction of 166,000 homes.

The Sudanese Civil Defense stated that 124 people were killed and 54 others were injured due to the floods and torrents.

Noteworthy, Egypt seeks to help Sudan to overcome this crisis by sending food and humanitarian aid, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to provide emergency aid to the people affected by the floods in the Republic of Sudan.

The Sudanese officials expressed appreciation to the Egyptian leadership and people for supporting the Sudanese people in their current crisis.

Earlier, South Sudan’s president, Silva Kiir, received Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aaty, and his accompanying delegation, during their official visit to South Sudan.

Kiir expressed his sincere greetings and appreciation to President Sisi, and the Egyptian people for supporting South Sudan during the crises.

On his part, the Egyptian Minister of Irrigation conveyed the greetings of President Sisi to the leadership, government and people of South Sudan.
