Martin Griffith, the United Nations (UN) Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs, revealed that more than 200 thousand people flee Amhara Province in Ethiopia due to clashes with fighters with the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) who penetrated deeply in the province on the backdrop of disputes between the leadership of the front and the federal government led by Abiy Ahmed Ali, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister.

Griffith added that fifty-four thousand people also became displaces in the Afar area, one of the major provinces in Ethiopia as the militants of the PTLF invaded the province.

The UN official held a news conference in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia yesterday, according to “Reuters”, a news agency.

Over the last few weeks’ clashes extended to Afar and Amhara neighboring Tigray where hostilities broke out between the federal forces loyal to Abiy Ahmed and the PTLF before eight months.

Griffith pointed that they need 100 trucks daily to deliver humanitarian aids to the population of Tigray.

On the other hand, Nidd Price, a spokesman for the US Department of State, urged forces of Tigray to withdraw immediately from Amhara and Afar provinces and deliver aid without any expedients.

On July 30,  the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) warned today, Friday, that severe malnourishment threatens more than 100 thousand children in Tigray province in Ethiopia over the next 12 months,

The organization stressed that those youngsters may die if they don’t receive urgent humanitarian aids to save their lives.

Marixi Mercado, a spokeswoman for the UNICEF in Geneva, said that pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers suffer from severe malnourishment after returning from the province.

She added that aids should be delivered to the province without any expedients to supply aid to women and children urgently.

On the other hand,  Jens Larke, a spokesman for the UN, revealed that the staff of UNICEF and the other philanthropic organizations need smartphones linked to satellites and more communication means to facilitate their work in Tigray.

He urged the Ethiopian government to permit these devices to support international humanitarian activities in the province.

However, Washington declared that it will send Samantha Power, Head of the US International Aid (USAID) agency to Ethiopia next week. The US Administration warns of punitive measurements against Ethiopia if aid doesn’t be delivered safely in Tigray.
